Life imprisonment for a stepfather who raped stepdaughter

Port Elizabeth Regional Court has handed down a life sentence to a 44 years old step father who raped his 14 yes old stepdaughter in April 2019.

Magistrate Kenny Cooney heard in court how the incident started on two occasions 20th and 22nd December 2018 at their home in Motherwell where the young girl’s breasts were touched by the stepfather.

He later on raped her on April 23rd 2019 while the mother was at work.

She ran to her friend’s house after the incident where she was followed by the perpetrator and she told her friend to tell the stepfather that she is not at the house while she his under the bed.

She then ran to her father’s place in the same area and he accompanied her to report the matter at the police station.

A case was opened and he was arrested on the same day.

State prosecutor emphasized how the stepfather abused his power as the role model and asked the court to not be lenient to him.

Magistrate Kenny Cooney further sentenced him to six years for two counts of sexual assault as he touched her breasts.
