Ukraine has managed to secure sympathy and empathy from the global community in different levels, be it governments, NGO’s and various organised groups.

An international football body, FIFA is the latest body to throw their support behind Ukraine following the war that has erupted between Ukraine and Russia since the beginning of this week.

In a said political war that has been brewing for years, Russia invaded Ukraine with their troops and military ammunition which saw several people loosing their lives and various structures being bombed in Ukraine.

As a result FIFA released a statement saying no international soccer matches will be played in Russia and the country’s flag and the anthem will be banned from any of their matches abroad.

“First and foremost, FIFA would like to reiterate its condemnation of the use of force by Russia in its invasion of Ukraine. Violence is never a solution and FIFA expresses its deepest solidarity to all people affected by what is happening in Ukraine.”

FIFA also called for restoration of peace and constructive dialogue to stop the war.

The banning of Russia by FIFA includes the national team not being able to compete as Russia but Football Union of Russia (RFU).

The push back to isolate Russian team also came from other football mother bodies who refused to compete in Russia with Russian teams.

Czech Republic, Poland and Sweden national teams were due to compete with the Russian national team this coming month for the World Cup qualifiers.
