Andre De Ruyter has become yet one of the power utility Eskom’s Group Chief Executive Officers (GCEO) to get booted out of office for over staying perhaps.
After failing to get rid of load shedding for years of making promises, De Ruyter made an announcement last year that he will not be serving his full contractual term and resigned but committed to stay and serve notice.
To much if everyone’s surprise, Eskom released a statement late Wednesday night that they are releasing him with immediate effect from office and he will be required to serve his notice.
The utility said the decision was taken after a special Board meeting that took place on the 22nd of February.
“Following the convening of a special Board meeting on 22 February 2023, the Eskom Board and Group Chief Executive (GCE) Andrè de Ruyter have reached mutual agreement to curtail his notice period to 28 February 2023,”
“The board further resolved that Mr de Ruyter will not be required to serve the balance of his notice period but that he will be released from his position with immediate effect”
Many speculations say that de Ruyter was rather pushed because of the interview he did with the eTV on Monday where he alleged that there are lot of corrupt activities by top politicians some in cabinet who interfere with the operations of the utility leading to certain things not being done accordingly.
De Ruyter alleged that criminal syndicates in Mpumalanga were stealing around R1 billion a month from Eskom, and nothing much was being done about it.
He said that evidence shows that the governing party ANC wants to eat from the $8.5billion which Eskom procured from COP26 meant for a just transition.
He also admitted to failing to stop load shedding and added that a lot more worse could come in winter.
