EFF not happy with National Assembly Speaker, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula’s of independent panel to probe President Cyril Ramaphosa on the Phala Phala farm matter.

Various opposition parties in Parliament including ATM called for the motion of no confidence against President Ramaphosa following the said of alleged theft at his farm back in 2020.

Following the announcement by the Speaker, EFF is of the view that choice of panelists by Mapisa-Nqakula is completely biased towards President Ramaphosa because some of the chosen people have publicly declared their support for the President on several occasions including on matter that involve internal ANC battles.

“The EFF rejects the appointments made by the National Assembly Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula for the independent panel to investigate whether there is prima facie evidence of criminal activity on Phala Phala farm. Her appointments are irrational, bias and are a complete disregard of the consultative process with political parties represented in Parliament.”

“Her appointment have no regard for the nominations by a majority of opposition parties represented in Parliament and at face value, are to the detriment of accountability. The “Independent Panel” will undoubtedly be bias and will favour Ramaphosa, defending his money laundering and use of state resources to conceal a crime as not an ethical breach of the Constitution.”

They were particularly against the appointment of UCT Professor Richard Calland whom they said have on many occasions including on his social media pages, sang praises for Ramaphosa and his policies.

They added that Calland has criticised Members of Parliament who have been calling for Ramaphosa to account.
