As the IEC eagerly awaits the Constitutional Court to make a decision on whether it is possible or not to postpone the 2021 Local Government Elections as advised by the inquiry led by retired former Deputy Chief Justice Ntate Dikgang Moseneke, candidates have until Monday 17h00 to make submissions.

Ntate Moseneke was of the view that elections would not be free and fair should they continue on a proclaimed date, October 27 2021 because of limited movements and gatherings restricted by current national lockdown regulations.

The IEC said that candidates who fail to meet the deadline on 23 August 2021, 17h00 will not be considered for the upcoming elections.

“According to the timetable, once the 23 August deadline has passed, the Electoral Commission will have until Friday, 27 August to notify political parties and independent candidates of non-compliance in respect of documents.”

“However, a party that does not submit a list of candidates and pay a deposit by 17h00 on 23 August 2021, will not have an opportunity to correct these none compliance. Likewise, an independent candidate who fails to pay the deposit and submit candidate documents by the cut off time of 23 August 2021 will be disqualified” said the IEC.
