A 42 years old attorney Nkoemakae Mola of Mola Attorneys has been granted bail of R10 000 by a Magistrates Court in Tshwane North.
Mola was arrested on charges of fraud, 15 counts and 15 counts of theft.
NPA Regional Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana alleges that Mola have been defrauding potential property buyers since 2019.
“Mola defrauded potential house buyers of an amount of over R2 Million by pretending to be a lawyer handling the sale of a property. It is alleged that he would ask any potential buyer to deposit a certain amount into Mola attorneys bank account for the property.”
“When the money reflected in the Mola attorneys’ account, it is alleged that he would then transfer the money to his private account” said Mahanjana.
Eventually Mola was arrested following several cases that were opened against him. He was apprehended in his house in Burgersfort on 06 July 2021.
Making his appearance in Court, the prosecutor opposed his bail stating that Mola was a flight risk and that the complainants are known to him which might lead to intimidation. He further stated that Mola is likely to commit similar offence while out on bail.
The court however did not take the prosecutor’s argument into consideration and instead granted him bail with bail conditions that Mola was to hand over his passport to the investigation officer.
Added to the conditions, he should not travel outside of the country and should not have any direct or indirect contact with complainants and witnesses relating to this matter.
The matter was postponed to 27 October 2021 for further investigations.
