A woman ends up police cuffs following GBV self-defense

A 26 years old woman is set to make her first appearance at Welkom Magistrates Court today on attempted murder charges for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend in the chest with a knife.

The said incident led to the Thabong Police being forced to launch an investigation of an attempted murder charge.It is said according to reports that the incident occurred on Sunday, 1 June 2025, at approximately 17:15, where a 29-year-old male victim was resting at his residence in Thabong when his girlfriend arrived at the premises accompanied by her family.

During the visit, a verbal altercation allegedly took place, during which the male victim requested money to travel to Botshabelo.

The request was denied and a physical altercation reportedly ensued, during which the victim allegedly assaulted the suspect by slapping her multiple times.

In retaliation to the slap, the woman armed herself with the knife and eventually stabbing the victim on the left side of his chest.

She was arrested as the victim was receiving medical attention.
