A man released in bail again after absconding

A 37 years old man who had been on the police wanted list after absconding court appearance following bail release has been released on bail again by the Mpumalanga court.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said that Thabo Phistos Mavundla, appeared before the Schoemansdal Regional Court on Monday, 27 November following his arrest by the Hawks on charges of possession of assault rifles.

Captain Sekgotodi said that Mavundla was first arrested and charged for possession of prohibited firearms and explosives on March 2022. His case only transferred to the Hawks after he failed to make further court appearances and went into hiding. They later discovered that he was hiding at Numbi where he was arrested.

“The forensic report was received, and the accused  was linked with an attempted Cash In Transit Robbery and attempted  murder which happened earlier the same month. Investigation further linked the accused with other cases.”

He was released on bail again for R 1000 and is due to appear on January 23, 2024.
