Eastern Cape High Court in Gqeberha has handed down a life sentence plus 15 years to a 42 years old man who raped and killed his 16 years old niece.

The incident is said to have occurred on December 22, 2019 according to NPA Spokesperson in the area Anelisa Ngcakani.

“During the evening of 22 December 2019, the teenager accompanied her uncle to a local shop. The two ended up at a plantation in Tsitsikamma, where Thorne raped her. As she resisted him he placed his hand over her face and smothered her. He left her body in the plantation.”

The uncle’s arrest came after the mother approached him and asked about her daughter’s whereabouts as he was the last one seen walking with her alive.

Police were then alerted when the uncle could not provide answers of her whereabouts.

The 42 Francois Thorne then took the police to the place where he left the deceased 5 days later.

The State’s Advocate Liezel Landman argued that Thorne used and abused his position of trust to his niece to lure her into believing that she is safe with her.

She pleaded with the court for maximum sentencing.
