Gauteng Department of Education faces a tough task ahead of them in convincing teachers and other staff to take a Covid-19 vaccine.
Education MEC in the Province Mr Panyaza Lesufi said that although people are exercising their constitutional right, he has expressed greater disappointment.
“We are very worried that nearly 10 000 of our personnel in the Gauteng Education sector are for one reason or the other refusing to be vaccinated against the deadly virus which has wreaked havoc in our schools and communities by taking away our loved ones” said MEC Lesufi.
MEC also said that so far of the 124 934 number of teachers and support staff, 42.55% have already been vaccinated.
Translating to 53 154.
Lesufi said that refusal to be vaccinated delays the country’s attempt to fast track vaccination of the whole country and other sectors and it also sets the country back in achieving a herd immunity.
It is said that some of those who are refusing have comorbidities.
