Two men who first found themselves being victims of assault have found themselves having to pay with two life terms and 30 years imprisonment worth of freedom for letting their emotions cloud their judgment.
The 26 years old Philani Ndlovu and 22 years old Ayanda Mkhize got into an altercation with Cyprian Mkhize and Thembinkosi Maphumulo on May 2019 at the Table Mountain area just outside Pietermaritzburg where Ndlovu’s brother, Sphamandla Ndlovu got injured from a gunshot.
Shortly after that altercation, Maphumulo then fled the scene.
This is according to NPA Spokesperson in the Natasha Kara who also said that, Ndlovu being overwhelmed with emotions and the need to seek revenge, he went on to seek assistance from Mkhize for revenge.
Upon agreeing, they then armed themselves and headed to Cyprian’s homestead where they found his family members instead of him.
“Maphumulo was not there, either but members of his family were. The men opened fire on the family members including Maphumulo’s wife, father, sister and his 1 year old daughter who lost her life due to the injuries suffered from the scene while other family members only suffered injuries.”
“The men then fled the scene and were later arrested by police.”
“Ndlovu and Mkhize were sentenced to life imprisonment for each of the two counts of murder and 10 years imprisonment for each of the three counts of attempted murder” said Kara.
