91 years old man charged with rape of a girl (11) and mother charged with child neglect in Mpumalanga

Bushbuckridge police have confirmed an arrest of a 30 years old man on charges of child neglect on April 1st.
It is said according to statement by the police the said woman has for quite some time had a tendency of leaving her three children by themselves on numerous occasions.
Children aged two, five and eleven were often forced to fend for themselves when their mother had gone galavanting on the streets.
Her tendencies were once reported to the police and she was warned to not repeat, until not long after that, a neighbor then paid her a visit and found the children on their own.
The little children then broke their silence and confided to the woman about their ordeal. They also indicated that they have been treated badly as well as neglected by their own mother. Details given by the children revealed that the 11-year-old girl, had allegedly been raped by a man who often visited their mother. The man also reportedly assaulted the five year old boy but their mother failed to report the two incidents to the authorities.
The children were taken to a school and the principal was notified about the matter and police were called to the said school.
Mpumalanga Police Spokesperson Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said that upon arrival, police working together with their counterparts from the Department of Social Development, immediately sought medical attention for these children as well as removing them to a place of safety.
But to their surprise the mother suddenly went AWOL as the investigations continued.
It was later on found that the alleged rapist is a 91 years old man.
“Meanwhile their mother suddenly disappeared without any trace, however a case was opened accordingly where police worked tirelessly and on Wednesday, 24 March 2021, they arrested a 91 year old man and charged him for rape of the 11 year old girl with an additional charge of assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm against the five year old boy” said Hlathi.
The 91 years old man has since been in police custody since March 24th and said to appear again on April 6th for formal bail hearing while the mother released on R 1000.00 bail.
