President Matamela Ramaphosa has continued to ask citizens to adhere to basic Covid-19 safety protocols even as daily cases continue to be record low.

He said this during a Covid-19 pandemic update late Sunday night where he also announced that the country will move from alert level 3 lockdown to level 1 as of Sunday.

“Based on an assessment of the pandemic in the country, cabinet decided earlier today [Sunday] to move the country from coronavirus alert level 3 to alert level 1,” Ramaphosa said.

Curfew has also been extended from 10pm to 4am to 00:00am to 4am.

President Ramaphosa also emphasized that he hopes that the relaxation of certain regulations would strengthen the economy and hopefully businesses would recover some of their loses during tougher lockdown.

“Wearing of a mask is still mandatory and it is a criminal offence to not wear one.”

He concluded that masks are one of our few methods of personal protection against Covid-19 infection.
