Hawks arrest former SASSA employee who submitted fake matric certificate and benefiting R 4million in salaries in 15 years in Mpumalanga

Former South African Social Services Agency (SASSA) employee cover has been after fraudulently benefiting from the agency’s employment services for over 12 years.
Members of the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation in Mpumalanga arrested the said 59 years old suspect on Friday night at Volkrust, Mpumalanga for a fraudulent matric certificate submitted for employment 15 years ago.
It is said that the suspect had been an employee at the SASSA since 2006 after having applied for an advertised team leader administration post using a fake certificate.
The Hawks Spokesperson in Mpumalanga Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said an internal vetting process of the employees’ credentials at the agency and a consultation with the Department of Education was initiated after it came to light that she had infact submitted a fraudulent matric certificate when applying for the said position.
“In December 2020, a case docket was opened and consequently transferred to the Hawks for further Investigation. The probe has revealed the suspect has unduly gained just over R4 million in salaries and bonuses since being employed” said Captain.
She in turn resigned in December 2020 after realising her cover was blown.
She has been charged for fraud and is expected to appear in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 01 March 2021.
