ANC got a backlash from social media after announcing a new Member of Parliament (MP) who is Chinese-born, Xiaomei Havard.

The governing party say that Havard is set to replace the late Minister in the Presidency Jackson Mthembu.

Havard who is also a businesswoman and married to a South African, moved to South Africa for study purposes in University of Johannesburg where she obtained a PhD in Computer Sciences.

She later on joined the ANC in 2004 and was supposed to be sworn in, in the National Assembly but failed due to the party’s performance 2019.

The party’s announcement of her replacing Minister Jackson Mthembu sparked outrage where some people asked if the Chinese Parliament even has anyone who is African.
