Police officers caught escorting 100s of dagga bags worth millions

Three police officers aged between 32 and 49 stationed at White River in the Flying Squad are facing charges including corruption and defeating the ends of justice.

Additional charges may follow as investigations progress.The trio was arrested on the N4 near Matsulu t-junction escorting a motor vehicle, Toyota Corolla transporting 107 bags of dagga worth millions.

According to provincial police, the officers dressed in full uniform and using a marked police vehicle were caught in the act while on duty.

The bust came after police in Matsulu acted swiftly on intelligence about the suspicious activity.

Officers cornered the suspects and made the arrests on the spot.Added to the arrest were two civilians, a 44-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman who were inside the dagga-laden vehicle, and are set to face charges related to dealing in dagga.

Police management has confirmed that internal disciplinary proceedings will be launched against the implicated officers.
