“One of the suspects’ mother told him to run because police are coming”

While Olerato’s family are still trying to make sense of what could be the motive behind her killing, Police Spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said that some of the suspects allegedly involved in her killing were out on bail. It is said that they arrested in April this year and was released 6 days later on charges of kidnapping and robbery among others.

She also said that shortly after giving out the contact number incase the suspects are located and more info, they received 10s of calls from different women saying they know one of the suspects alleging that he also communicated with them mostly in the malls and some allegedly that the conversations were initiated from social media and he would rob them when they meet.

Speaking to the media after the discovery of the vehicle used to commit the crime, KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner General Nhlahla Mkhwanazi said the mother of one of the suspects was also taken for questioning after allegedly informing her son that the police were on his tail.
