Siblings found in possession of deceased colleague’s firearm

Police in Mafikeng have confirmed the arrest of siblings aged 27 and 43 who were in possession of a firearm belonging to their deceased colleague who was a security officer.

Colonel Adele Myburgh said that the duo was arrested in a collaborative operation by Mahikeng Visible Policing members which also included Reservists and working together with the local Community Police Forum (CPF).

Colonel Myburgh said that the pair Zithembe Zondi and Sithembe Zondi aged 27 and 43 respectively were apprehended at Station road, Mahikeng after being seen acting suspicious.

The pair ran away when the team approached them, but were apprehended. On searching the duo, a 9mm Glock Pistol loaded with five ammunition was found inside one of the males’ bags.

They failed to give account for the possession and were both taken to the police station for questioning. Subsequent to the circulation of the firearm, it showed that the firearm belongs to one of the two security officers who were found dead on Sunday, 17 November 2024, near Danville, Mahikeng.

Police decided to continue with their investigations on the duo as they made their way to the pair’s rented rooms in town where six ammunition and a holster were found.

Both males, who previously worked with the murdered security officers, were placed under arrest.
