49 years old man faces more charges for assaulting police officer

Court appearance today of a 40-year-old male facing charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He was arrested in Impala Street, Rugby, Milnerton on Thursday, 21 November 2024.

Ltd Col Malcolm Potjie from the Western said that the members performed crime prevention patrols when they spotted a suspicious vehicle, stationary at the end of the street.

The members approached the vehicle and identified one of the three occupant of the vehicle as a person of interest, allegedly involved in extortion related offences in the Joe Slovo area. Upon making engagement with the said suspects, they conducted a search in the motor vehicle and discovered a firearm in a holster and 26 rounds of ammunition which the person of interest carried in a moon bag.

They seized the firearm and ammunition and had to restrain the suspect who fought the members to evade arrest.

He was eventually arrested and added on the charge was assault to a police officer. He is appearing at Cape Town Magistrate’s Court today.
