A 49 years old woman, Agnes Segomotsi Setshwantsho has been arrested for the alleged involvement in the murder of her children and husband to cash in on insurance claims.
Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said Setshwantsho has been under their surveillance for a while as they were collecting evidence with other cases from as far as 2005.
Brigadier Mathe said that for the past two months, Sergeant Keshi Mabunda and a team of detectives have been working on this case following a tip-off from relatives of this suspect.
Mabunda was roped in to kick-start investigations due to his expertise in solving similar cases. He was the key person in the case that shook the country and insurance industry involving the arrest and sentencing of Rosemary Ndlovu who was convicted for killing various family members, husband including children to also cash in insurance money.
This recent suspect was linked to various murder cases through analysis and collection of evidence including the exhumation of a body.
“The murder that was initially ruled a ‘natural death’ happened in Mmabatho in the North West where a female relative died under mysterious circumstances in March 2023. Investigations have revealed that the suspect fraudulently took out insurance on behalf of her relative, prior to her murder.”
“The team is also investigating the deaths of the suspect’s son who died in July 2023, her husband who died in 2016 and her two daughters who died in 2015 and 2005.”
Brig Mathe added that the suspect has according to investigations pocketed large amounts of money throughout her activities.
