Ninth suspect involved in Thabo Bester case remains in police custody

A case against the ninth suspect said to be involved in Thabo Bester case has been prison escape has been postponed to June 20th.

The Zimbabwean national Zanda Moyo is facing several charges, violating a body, fraud, and harbouring and concealing an escaped convict.

Bester escaped from Mangaung Correctional Centre on 3 May 2022 and faked his death in a fire in his cell, leaving behind a body burned beyond recognition to make it as if it was him.

Moyo made his first brief court appearance at Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he also requested to contact his family back home in Zimbabwe.

State prosecutor also asked Moyo to confirm on record if he is certain that he does not need any interpreter because even his Zulu is not the same as the South African one because he is from Zimbabwe.

He also said that he does not have money a legal representative but presiding over the case was Magistrate Khabisi who said he can make use of Legal Aid services for free.
