Matric learners allegedly paid teachers R 1.5K for answers during an exam in Mpumalanga

Department of Basic Education says they have instituted an investigation following allegations of cheating during matric paper and learners allegedly paying teachers R 1500.00 for answers.

It is said that a little over 300 learners from Mpumalanga school/s allegedly paid teachers and invigilators R 1500.00 to join a WhatsApp group during a session.

Basic Education Spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga said they have instituted an investigative markings and they believe answers will give them a clue on the perpetrators.

Mhlanga urged alleged perpetrators to rather come forward to save time and resources investigations.

He said that during interview with Newzroom Afrika where he also said that they don’t know for certain an exact number of perpetrators but they believe there is something to be suspicious of.

The Department also released a statement on Monday refuting claims that the number of learners involved was around 1100. The article was published by News24.
