Police Minister and SAPS tells Parliament about an increase in murder rate

Police Minister Bheki and the South African Police Service have told the Parliament Portfolio Committee rather sad news about crime that is forever increasing in our country at a very alarming rate.

More especially murder cases.

The Minister said that the murder rate in our country is up significantly as compared to the 6 163 murders committed in the same period last year.

It is said according to statistics that there has been about 7 004 murders during the period under review.

Which tells an increase of 841 (13.6%) compared to the previous quarter.

KwaZulu-Natal recorded the most number of murders, with 185 people killed in the province.

This was followed by Gauteng with 145, the Western Cape with 113, and the Eastern Cape with 74 murders.
