Rape accused shop owner remains in police custody for appointment of language interpreter

A Pakistani national remains in police custody pending further investigations and appointment of an Urdu language interpreter.

The 25 years old Majid-Ali Jabbar is accused of raping a 14 years old young girl in the room at his shop in Springbok, Northern Cape.

It is said according to NPA Spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane that the accused allegedly called the victim to the room and collect a Tupperware.

“She went with him, stood at the door, and when she tried to take the Tupperware, the accused grabbed her by the arm, threw her on the floor, and raped her. After raping the victim, the accused threatened to kill her if she told anyone about what happened.”

“She ran home and told her grandmother what happened, and the matter was reported to the police.”

He remains in police custody until August 19 for formal bail application.
