Update: Woman in court for allegedly shooting and killing a police officer

Mpumalanga Hawks Spokesperson Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi said that the 45 years old Sgt was brutally murdered during the night of Tuesday, 2 August 2022 in Gedlembane.

According to info by the police, they say that they received a call from a neighbour who said they received a call from the officer’s mother on suspicions of the officer being killed.

“Upon the police’s arrival, they found him motionless, laying in his bed with visible gunshot wounds on his body. He was shot five times allegedly with his service pistol, two times in the head and three times on his upper body.”

The 28 years old Zanele Mkhonto made a brief appearance at KaNyamazane Magistrate court on Wednesday, 10 August 2022.

The case was then postponed to Kabokweni Magistrate Court today for Legal Aid and formal bail application.

UPDATE

After making an appearance at Kabokweni Magistrate Court, Mkhonto was remanded in police custody until August 23 for formal bail application.
