Murder and rape accused Samuel Noko is set to spend festive season behind bars pending further investigations on his case.

The 34 years old man from Mathibestad is accused of raping, killing dismembering a corpse of 29 years old Monni Monyeki before burying her in a shallow grave near a river in Mathibestad.

Police reports reveal that Monyeki was reported missing by her aunt on 29 May 2021 and at that time the last person she was seen with was Noko, who was allegedly her boyfriend at that time.

The two allegedly left together to perform some rituals and shortly afterwards, Noko was spotted pushing Monyeki in a wheelbarrow after she had consumed a substance that made her dizzy. She allegedly disappeared after this incident.

Police investigations led them to Noko who later on led them to the shallow grave on June 12, 2021.

Police Spokesperson Henry Mamothame said the rape case however is not of the deceased.

“The rape charge against Noko is in relation to the alleged crime that was reported to the police by a 14-year-old girl related to the deceased. The rape incident allegedly took place at the time when Monyeki was missing.”

The Moretele Magistrates’ Court postponed the case to 20 January 2022 for further investigations.
