North West Education MEC Mmaphefo Matsemela says she and the Department are disturbed by the recent developments where a teacher at Tolamo Primary School from Letlhakaneng village near Brits was stabbed by another teacher Tshefoge Primary School at Vaalboschloot.

This incident occurred on the day as learners where coming back for the second term in school on 03rd May, Monday.

It is said that the 64 years old victim was at a community hall where her school was moved to school as their school is currently under construction. The perpetrator then forcefully entered the hall refusing neither to be sanitised nor to check temperature with his face covered with balaclava.

The 47 years old teacher as well (perpetrator) then called the victim outside where the argument ensued where he stabbed the victim multiple times on the back of her neck.

This is according to Spokesperson Elias Malindi who added that the perpetrator was quickly apprehended by staff members who intervened and police were summoned to the scene as the teacher was rushed to the hospital.

“The injured teacher is still in a critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit of the local hospital” said Malindi.

MEX Matsemela condemned the incident.

“As a department we are very much disturbed and disappointed by such a heinous and barbaric incident which happened at our schools allegedly perpetrated by one of our educators. This has also traumatised our learners since it happened in front of them. I wish to thank the staff members who braved themselves and apprehended the suspect,” Matsemela said.
