80 years old woman accused of witchcraft set alight in Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma has condemned an act of alleged mob justice where an 80 years old woman was set alight allegedly by the community in Mbuzini.

The old lady was accused of practising witchcraft after allegedly being found naked at a neighbour’s house and was hacked with a hoe then locked in her house in Mbuzini near Tonga, before being set alight this past weekend.

Lt Zuma said that the Police were notified of the horrific incident and managed to trace certain suspects who were allegedly involved.

“Four suspects aged between 44 and 22, have already been arrested so far and will possibly make their first appearance before the Tonga Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Tuesday, 12 January 2021.”

“According to a progress report on the case, other suspects are still outstanding on this investigation and arrests are imminent” said Lt Zuma.
