Zambian Football Association confirms the passing of medical officer Dr Kabungo

Football fraternity mourns the passing of Zambian CAF/FIFA medical officer Dr Joseph Kabungo who was the doping officer in Tuesday’s FIFA World Cup match between Nigeria and Ghana in Abuja.

It is said according to several reports that Dr Kabungo apparently collapsed at the match venue and was rushed to hospital where he was certified dead despite efforts to resuscitate him.

His cause of death is yet to be confirmed, and the Zambian FA has called on people to stop speculating following the ugly scenes that marred the end of the game, with Nigerian fans rioting before storming the pitch and attacking players from both sides, as well as causing significant damage to the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.
