As South Africa commemorates 27 years of freedom since 1994 when the country held its first democratic elections, the red berets, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) also held their parallel freedom days at Attrigeville in Tshwane.

This was also as President Matamela Ramaphosa also held one as the head of government in Botshabelo Free State.

The commemoration could not be without any controversy as the EFF leader Julius Malema said there really is nothing to celebrate as natives because we are still struggling and those who were rich prior 1994 continue to enjoy the riches of this country while the poor get poorer and only the connected elites move forward.

“What type of freedom is this one? A freedom without water, a freedom without houses, a freedom without toilets, a freedom without access to quality education?” said Malema.

He also said that there is still a lot more that needs to be done to change the lives of black people.
