Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena has welcomed the arrest of two police officers for corruption.

Sergeant Orapeleng Sekane and Sergeant Pogiso Chacha who are court orderlies at the Wolmaransstad Magistrates’ Court, were arrested by the Provincial Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit (ACIU) on Tuesday, 31 January 2023.

Police Spokesperson Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said the pair reportedly solicited R1000.00 from a malicious damage to property accused on condition that they destroy the docket, which was registered in August 2021.

Eventually a notice to appear was issued against the man after he failed to appear in court.

The matter only got known following the confrontation of the said officers by the man’s relatives and they ended up paying back the money.

They were arrested by their fellow colleagues through an undercover operation after the matter was reported.

They were released on R 500 bail each after making a brief court appearance at the local Magistrates Court.

Mokgwabone added that they are also subjected to departmental investigations in terms of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Discipline Regulations.

They are expected to make a second court appearance on Friday, 3 March 2023.
