Limpopo Cooperative governance and traditional affairs (Cogta) instructed an initiation school in the Mopani district in the province to shut down following the death of 6 boys on Monday.
Although the matter has now been handed down to the police for further investigations, Spokesperson in the department Hitekani Magwedze said by the look of things, parents and the school are at fault.
“Both the parents of the boy and the initiation school have contravened section 12 (1) of the Limpopo Initiation Schools Act 2016, which states that no person below the age of 12 can be admitted to an initiation school.”
He said the minors were not even supposed to be admitted and they are disappointed that the recorded deaths have already broken their initial plan of no deaths this season.
