Police seek public assistance to identify a decomposed body

Knysna police are seeking the assistance from the public to identify a decomposed body which was found in the cemetery next to the N2 opposite the Knysna Provincial Hospital on Sunday, 08 March 2026 at about 11:00.

Reports available indicates that police members attached to the Tsitsikamma K9 conducted patrols when they were stopped by two men. The men directed police to the cemetery and on arrival the members found the decomposed body in a shallow stream which runs through the site. The deceased was dressed in a grey jeans at the time of the discovery.

An inquest docket was opened and the autopsy to determine the cause of death was already conducted. The outstanding report forms part of the ongoing police investigation.

The investigation officer, Sergeant Denzil Cook, urges the public to come forward with any information which could assist with the identity of the deceased or to trace his next of kin. Anyone with information can contact the Knysna Detectives at 044 302 6652 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
