Officer arrested for corruption

The Bizana Police in the Eastern Cape under Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality have arrested one of their own for fraud and corruption.

It is said according to police officials in the area that the K9 Unit arrested a suspect accused of conveying drugs. Upon his arrest, his vehicle was impounded as it is alleged to have been instrumental in the commission of a crime.

He was later on released in R 5000 bail after a court appearance.

Shortly after his release, he went to the police station to enquire about his vehicle to which he was allegedly told by the investigating officer (IO) responsible for his case to organise R 2000.

The matter was reported to the Bizana Serious Corruption Investigation team for probing which resulted in the apprehension of the IO on 14 April 2022.

The officer will make his first court appearance in Matatiele Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 19 April 2022.
