Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says they are ready for the upcoming local government elections come November 1st.

Having administered voter registrations this past weekend across the provinces, the Commission says they have captured over 1,7million voters.

Of the 1,7million voters registered, more than 400,000 young first-time voters information was captured.

This announcement was made late Tuesday morning by the Commission’s CEO Sy Mamabolo.

Mamabolo also said that they were impressed to learn that those aged between 16 and 29 amounted to 91% of first-time voters that registered over the weekend, with most of them using the newly introduced online platform.

He added that 52% of all new registrations were female voters.
