Gauteng police officer arrested on corruption charges and falsely charging a traffic officer

A sentencing against a senior police official, Warrant Officer Nilos Maholobela has been postponed to June 4th after being found guilty of corruption.
Police Spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke said that Maholobela was found guilty by the Tzaneen Magistrates Court on May 21 for traffic violation fine and falsely charging a traffic officer in his defense.
“Maholobela who was stationed at SAPS-Dobsonville detectives was caught by Tzaneen Traffic official driving his private vehicle in Tzaneen area without his seat belt fastened.”
“As obliged by the law, the official issued summons against the accused for contravening the Road Traffic Act.”
“Instead of paying a fine, the accused decided to retaliate by pinning a case of culpable homicide he was investigating on the traffic official who issued the summons against him. He also demanded R10 000-00 gratification in order to make the docket disappear.”
Captain Maluleke added that the matter was reported to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation who conducted a thorough investigation that resulted in the arrest of the accused.
