“Get fully vaccinated for Covid-19 or don’t come to Botswana”

As countries try to manage the spread of Covid-19 in their various lands, Botswana has joined one the countries that seek to enforce strict rules in all their ports of entry.
With the country now sitting at over 260K cases and 2 597 fatalities, it seems the wants to take precautions sooner to avoid yet another wave.
The released a statement which was published through their social media account this past weekend where they outlined strict requirements for travelers seeking to enter the country at any of their ports
“The Ministry of Health and Wellness informs members of the public and international communities the effective from 14 February 2022, there will be some changes to all ports of entry in Botswana for purposes of reducing imported Covid-19 cases into the country” read parts opening parts of the statement.
The statement further went on to say that for any person to enter into country they would need to have been fully vaccinated and produce evidence at the request of the officials.
Failure to do such they will be denied entry. Alternatively they will be required to take a PCR test on the spot at their cost and only then they will be given permission to continue with their trip if they are found to test negative or turned back if they are foreigners and refuse to take up any those options.
If however, the traveler tests positive, they will have to go through isolation at their cost.
If you are Motswana you will be granted entry but be slapped with a fine of P5000.00 (R 6594.42) or an imprisonment not exceeding 12 months.
