The NPA is accusing former municipal manager Cassius Sejake of abusing his privileges to avoid facing charges by using delay tactics.
The former Ratlou Local Municipality manager facing charges related to the contravention of Section 173 of the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) appeared at the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court sitting in Mmabatho earlier this month and had his case postponed yet again to June 12th.
Sejake was arrested by Hawks on September 2020 after allegedly flouting tender processes to the value of R7,8 million, between 2018 and 2019, when he was acting municipal manager.
NPA Spokesperson in the area Henry Mamothame said that it is alleged that Sejake failed as the then accounting officer, to take reasonable steps to ensure that procurement processes were followed and observed.
Service providers were allegedly appointed without a competitive bidding process.
The matter was postponed for legal consultation and pre-trial. His R 5000 was further extended.
“The state intends to file a notice for the court to investigate the numerous delays resulting in a series of postponements, attributed to Sejake withdrawing the services of his attorneys and appointing new ones.”
“The NPA deems these delays to be unreasonable and hopes the court will make a ruling to halt further postponements on the matter” said Mamothame.
He added that the investigations were concluded long time ago and they are waiting for the trial to begin.
