Ex boyfriend kills baby Mama’s two kids

The Pietermaritzburg High Court has handed down a heavy sentence to a 36 years old Siyanda Dion Khumalo for the murder of two children.

Khumalo was in a relationship with Vamisile Zenda the mother of the deceased fourteen (14) years old Amkela Zenda and six (6) years old Sandiso Zenda.

NPA Spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara said that things between the couple started going south and bitter over some time. Fearing for her safety, Zenda then made a protection order against Khumalo.

Khumalo said in court during his trial that the protection order against was one of the things that made him more angry at Zenda whom he also shares a child with.

He also said that he was on a mission to bring more pain to Zenda as much as possible because of the protection order.

“Further, she did not pay him the R400 she owed for taking care of the boys as he needed the money to pay for his pregnant girlfriend’s medical expenses.”

“On the day of the incident, Khumalo went to Zenda’s house to seek revenge, but found the boys alone and used a bush knife to strike Amkele on the back of his head. The younger boy, Sandiso, was asleep in bed, so Khumalo set the house alight and fled the scene. Both children died inside the house, the accused was arrested a few days later and confessed to the crimes” said Kara.

Khumalo was sentenced to life imprisonment, for each murder and 8 years imprisonment for arson, the sentences will run concurrently.
