The Buccaneers are hopeful that they will bounce back from the their poor performance in the opening of 2025/26 season following a not so promising start in the premiership campaign after losing all two first games.
However, the team had a good head start in the MTN top 8 competition after beating and eliminating Polokwane City in a 2-0 defeat.
They almost lost their first leg semi-finals earlier today against the league dominating Mamelodi Sundowns who had a goal in the 36th minute. All thanks to a powerful header from Teboho Mokoena from a corner kick. They managed to defend their 1-0 lead until an equalizer that came in the 87th minute from a substitute, Kamogelo Sebelebele.
Newly appointed head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou who is already receiving heavy pushback from the fan said he is happy and was full of praise when his team scored an equalizer.
“We wanted to start the game with high intensity, putting pressure on this team [Mamelodi Sundowns], which we didn’t succeed in doing in the first 15-20 minutes. I think my team was a bit shy.”
“Unfortunately, we were efficient, and again, we had the misfortune to concede the goal at a set piece.”
He added that will take the results as they are and is ready for the 2nd leg on August 23rd in Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium, Tshwane.
