Boyfriend who was released for lack of evidence now handed life for the murder of girlfriend

The police in the North West province have managed to get a successful conviction ok case which they initially had to abandon due to lack of evidence.

The North West High Court sitting in Mmabatho handed down a life imprisonment for a 26 years old John Molokomme for the murder of his then girlfriend, a 20 years Mosima Dikutle after stabbing her multiple times with a scissor on February 21, 2018 in Hebron.

Police Spokesperson in the province Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said the accused was consequently arrested, but was later on released due to insufficient evidence. Subsequent to further investigation, the accused was taken back to court where he reappeared several times and ultimately found guilty.

Molokomme was also sentenced to additional 15 years imprisonment for housebreaking with the intent to commit an offence unknown to the state. The sentence on count 1 and count 2 will run concurrently. The accused was further declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of the Firearms Control Act, 2000 (Act No. 60 of 2000).
