The last football match of veteran defender Janine Van Wyk saw the national women’s football team Banyana Banyana redeeming themselves after being help to a draw by Burkina Faso last week.

The Women’s Afcon (WAFCON) champions qualified for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after a 2-0 (3-1 aggregate) victory over Burkina Faso in a second leg qualifier at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Despite dominating for the most of the game, Burkina Faso also held their own but it all ended in the second half when a penalty goal from Maserame Motlhalo changed the game in the 56th minute which was last followed by the second goal in the 86th minute by Nicole Michael.

The team’ manager Desree Ellis said she couldn’t be more happier about the results.

Banyana Banyana will return to action in February 2024 to continue with 2024 Olympic qualifications.

The team is currently the tournament’s champions.
