Accountant found guilty of defrauding clients of over R 50million

A 52 years old accountant is yet to be sentenced after being found guilty of defrauding two companies, Sunridge Superspar and Despatch Superspar, he was rendering accounting services to.

Jonathan Simon Blow appeared at Gqeberha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday where he was found guilty fraud and theft.

Police spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said the crims by Blow occurred in the period between 03 July 2020 and 19 September 2022.

“Blow appointed as the accounting officer for Sunridge Superspar and Despatch Superspar was given full access and administration rights to the two entities trading bank accounts used in the operation of the businesses in order to effectively render the aforesaid services.”

“In addition to the fees for which he had invoiced the businesses  he intentionally and unlawfully transferred cash to the value of more than R40 million from Sunridge Superspar and more than R11 million from Despatch Superspar to his bank account as confirmed by the investigations of Serious Commercial Crime Investigation of the Hawks in Gqeberha.”

He has been in police custody since his arrest on March 23rd and the matter is remanded to 23 November 2023 for pre-sentencing and Psychology reports. Blow also received notification of having been struck off the roll of SAICA (South African Institute for Chartered Accountants).
