28 years old man assaults 22 weeks pregnant girlfriend he accused of cheating to death

A 28 years old man from KwaZulu Natal has pleaded guilty to killing 24 years girlfriend who was 22 weeks pregnant at the time.

The 28 years old Lungani Gqwaru and the girlfriend Nokuphiwa Magwaza were living together at Sakhamkhanya area near KwaDukuza when the incident occurred in December 2020 where the girlfriend was accused of cheating.

NPA Spokesperson in the Natasha Kara said that Magwaza met her unfortunate day on December 22, 2020 where Gwaru paid her a visit at home and later on went for a walk.

“Gwaru then took her to a spot where he fatally assaulted her. He fled the scene.”

“Unbeknown to him, an eyewitness who knows him, saw him with Magwaza just before her death. When Magwaza’s body was found, the witness told the community members then accosted him and called the police” said Kara.

Gwaru initially pledged his innocence on the matter but later on changed his mind and admitted to his criminal act.

He was handed 20 years imprisonment by the Durban High Court.
