With the world being faced the global pandemic Covid-19, the Department of Basic Education remains as one of the most negatively affected departments having to make several adjustments in the yearly calendar and academic schedules.

This also saw the department being forced to do away with rotational class timetables for learners in late May after some discussions with stakeholders who said learners in the primary level are the most vulnerable. They end up forgetting what they have been taught being absent two days in, three days out and two days in and three days weekly rotational.

Minister in the Department Angie Motshekgoa have now signed a gazetted 2022 schooling calendar which was published on Monday following consultation with the Council of Education Ministers in terms of the National Education Act of 1996.

The calendar indicates that inland cluster will reopen schools a week before the rest of the country, on January 12 after closing December 14/15 nationally.
