Undocumented foreign nationals and illegal miners arrested during Operation Okae Molao

Operation Okae Malao in Gauteng continues to yield good results as Police make several arrests in various crime prevention operations in different Gauteng regions.

Gauteng’s Captain Kay Makhubele said that they have so far made a total of over 800 arrests this past week most of which were of GBV related wanted suspects.

Regional Police Commissioners were also joined by the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela to enforce the law were several illegal miners were also arrested including undocumented foreign nationals.

“The integrated law enforcement agencies flooded the streets and surroundings of Benoni and by close of business, four suspects had been arrested for illegal mining during a raid at what appeared to be a mining village where police found equipment used during the commission of illegal mining, explosives which police believe are of the same calibre as those used in cash in transit robberies and ATM bombings, and liquor that was abandoned by alleged illegal miners who evaded arrest and ran up the nearby mine dumps.”

“more than 600 wanted suspects arrested by the detectives for various serious and violent crimes, sixty-six of these suspects were arrested in Sedibeng and West Rand Districts. In Tshwane where police also arrested motorists for possession of illicit cigarettes, more than 231 suspects were arrested for various crimes. Over 400 were nabbed in Ekurhuleni and Johannesburg.”

Captain Makhubele also said that of the confiscated goods, nine motor vehicles were also impounded for further investigations.
