49 years old scholar driver sentenced for assault on a 16-year-old

A 49 years old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a 16 years old learner on multiple on occasions.
The Protea Magistrates’ Court heard that the now convicted scholar transport driver, Retshidisitsoe Moletsane first assaulted the you girl in November 2020 after she finished writing her exams. It is said that she finished first and made her way to the taxi to wait for other learners.
She later on went to a toilet but unfortunately for her, Moletsane followed her to the toilet where he undressed her before undressing himself and threatened to call other drivers to also rape her if she didn’t cooperate.
On another occasion, the same month, the accused took the victim from school and instead of dropping her off at home, he went to his friend’s place, and upon arrival inside the taxi, he forcefully had sexual intercourse with the victim.
The victim thereafter requested to use the bathroom, the accused then followed her to the bathroom and raped her again. After a few months, the mother of the victim noticed some changes in the child’s behaviour, and the victim also attempted suicide several times. At some stage, she even collapsed at school, and eventually she related the incident to her mother.
Following the report to her mother, Moletsane was later on arrested and pleaded not guilty in court failed to defend his innocence while the regional Court Prosecutor Mmakgadi Mangena argued that the accused demonstrated no remorse for his actions and betrayed the trust and respect both the victim and her mother had for him.
The court further ordered that the accused be registered in the National Register for Sexual Offences. He was also declared unsuitable to work with children.
