A simple protection order could not protect mother of two who had been complaining about the abuse she had been suffering at the hands of her former partner and father of her children.

The High Court of South Africa, Free State Division in Welkom heard that a 33 years old Mokhereke Mozangwa had protection given to the victim against him in in 2022, went to a farm where him and his family were residing near the farming town of Bultfontein on August 6th, 2023.

Upon arrival at his house, he found his wife, Mating Sinah Lebolonyana at their home looking after their two minor children.

Not long upon his arrival, a heated argument ensued between the two.

During the altercation, the accused broke a beer bottle and started to stab his wife with it. He then took a knife and continued to stab the wife several times wherever he could lay his hand.

Even when she fell, he continued to attack the helpless wife in the presence of their minor children. The police were called and the accused was arrested. He was remanded in custody until the conclusion of the matter.

Senior State Advocate Dansi Mpemvane, argued during the appearance that the accused had shown no remorse as he had killed his wife by stabbing her more than 18 times. The accused had little respect for the law because he continued to abuse his wife even when he knew that the was a protection order in place.

It was also heard in court that this was not the first time that Mozangwa stabbed the deceased. He did it before on numerous occasions and had cases opened against him by her which were later withdrawn.
