Two former police officers sentenced for selling a docket

The NPA has finally managed to secure a conviction for a corruption and extortion case two former police officers.

Jonathan Plaatjies and Morne Fasser aged 54 and 41 were arrested on August 2014 by the Hawks’ Bellville Serious Corruption Investigation team after reacting on information received that the two members sold a case docket to an accused for R40 000.00.

The two now convicted were arrested on charges of corruption, extortion and defeating the administration of Justice, 9 years, 8 years and 6 years respectively.

They were  dismissed from the SAPS through expeditious process after being found guilty as charged by the Bellville Serious Commercial Crimes Court.

The case was finalised yesterday, 03 April 2024 after they were convicted on 26 October 2023.

Effectively, both accused will serve a period of nine (9) years direct imprisonment each.

The court ordered that all sentences be served concurrently.

Additionally, both accused were declared unfit to possess a firearm.
