While politicians continue to point fingers about who is responsible for what, the people of Hammanskraal still continue to suffer the most when it comes to receiving basic services when it comes to water supply which they have not been benefiting from for years.

Human Rights Commission for South Africa is one of the organizations which released an official report two years ago confirming that the water quality supplied to the people of Hammanskraal was not suitable for human consumption.

The report revealed that the pollution of water resources in Hammanskraal was as a result of failure by the city to maintain wastewater treatment works in the area. It found the city had failed to fulfil its constitutional objectives.

The newly appointed Public Protector Adv Kholeka Gcaleka is the latest to release a report confirming that the quality of the water is indeed not the best for human consumption.

In her report, Gcaleka said the municipal manager of Tshwane must within 60 calendar days develop an implementation plan setting out the measures, including prioritisation of capital funding within its available resources to be undertaken to upgrade and refurbish the Rooiwal Water Waste Treatment Works (WWTW) to address ongoing water quality failures at the Temba water treatment works.

As a result of the water quality in the area, about 20 people list their lives earlier this year from cholera.

The City Mayor Cilliers Brink said they welcome the report and plans had already been made for the refurbishing of the plant.
